Quick right away
The Japanese Grand Prix weekend kicked off with a Bagnaia competitive from the very first laps. It is no coincidence that the Italian champion he finished FP1 ahead of everyone of Motegi – disturbed by rain in the second half – e he also led the Trials for a long time of the Japanese afternoon.
However, the Ducati rider was unable to set a record-breaking time attack in the final part of the session, due to a small mistake which thus relegated it to 7th place, 0.318 seconds behind leader Brad Binder. Bagnaia in the interview granted to Sky However, he seemed really satisfied and confident for the rest of the weekend.
Bagnaia’s words
“Today is very positive, I felt good straight away. Motegi suits my riding style better and we did a great job with the team. Unfortunately the time attack was missing, because I went wide in Turn 11but otherwise everything went very well. I like the bike and we did the right things. For tomorrow it will be important to take another small step forward, but we are on the right path.
It was essential to get a good start straight away and work on the pace and today we managed to do that. I am extremely happy. Mandalika gum? Not being able to push immediately when braking to set a certain type of time – because in the slipstream you can’t warm up as you would like – you can’t warm up the rear, because you tend to stop more and when you go on the gas you tend to let it slide more. As a result, the pace is a bit slow, but as soon as I had clear road I dropped 6-7 tenths of the pace, because I was finally able to brake hard.”
