Bad weather in Calabria, red alert also tomorrow, Tuesday 26 October. The Civil Protection of the region has extended the ‘red’ weather alert that affects the region also for the next 24 hours. The ‘red’ alert particularly affects the province of Reggio Calabria and the Ionian area of Catanzaro.
For tomorrow “widespread and intense rainfall is expected, with a prevalent downpour or thunderstorm character, with particularly persistent phenomena on the ionic sectors”. These are phenomena that will be “accompanied by strong showers, local hailstorms, frequent electrical activity and strong gusts of wind”. Furthermore, the bulletin also foresees “gale winds, with strong gale gusts with a tendency to further temporary reinforcements on the ionic sectors”. Finally, intense “storm surges along the exposed coasts” are expected. The Municipality of Catanzaro has therefore prepared an ordinance to extend the closure of all schools of all levels and sports facilities until tomorrow.
