This Friday the regional committee and the board of directors meet and there the Madrid president will defend “giving a voice” to the affiliates
The truce staged by the PP at the national convention in Valencia was nothing more than a mirage. The struggle between Isabel Díaz Ayuso and the national leadership for control of the party in Madrid does not cease and this Thursday experienced a new pulse after the regional president returned to demand that the primaries be held as soon as possible. Or in his own words: “in time and form as established by the statutes and the law.”
Díaz Ayuso is not willing to give up the presidency of the PP in Madrid, an aspiration that in their environment they see as “natural” after the victory on May 4, without forgetting the hackneyed argument that the rest of the popular barons also control the party in their respective territories. But the ambitions of the regional leader collide head-on with the sentiment of the leadership, which distrusts the accumulation of power around a single figure, in view of the bad experiences of the past with Esperanza Aguirre, and is opting for a third way.
This Friday the regional committee of the party and the board of directors meet and there Díaz Ayuso intends to return to the charge. He assures that he will defend “the voice of the affiliates” at the meeting because he considers that asking them about the future they want “can never be bad.” “The sooner we discuss it, the better for everyone,” he settled on Thursday in this regard.
The national leadership, however, is not willing to give in and replies that the timetable is already set. They insist that the congresses of the single-province communities will be held in 2022 and that of Madrid is not planned before spring.
