Politics poisons everything in the Madrid Assembly. Not even the tragedy that at least three minors protected by the Community have been sexually exploited by a network of pimps escapes the partisan struggle in the plenary session this Thursday, the first of the year. With the common starting point of condemning what happened, the parties launch to interpret terror in a political key. We can demand that the new children’s law be made by consensus and as soon as possible. Vox, that the Executive promote a study commission on juvenile centers. And above all rises, or sinks, depending on how you look at it, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the regional president. This is his argument: there is no case, because everything happens outside public facilities; if there were, worse are the networks detected in other regions governed by the left (Valencian Community and Balearic Islands); and the Ombudsman, Ángel Gabilondo, is interested in this, he insinuates, because he is from the PSOE.
“It is sad that the cases of other communities come to our heads, because that does not solve anything for the girls,” laments Mónica García, the spokeswoman for Más Madrid and leader of the opposition. “You know better than anyone that your counselor [Concepción Dancausa] It has not been up to the task, and that is why it is going to be disapproved, ”he continues. “You have to choose whether you are going to protect the counselor or the girls. Do you really think that we people from Madrid are stupid?
Reprobation does not exist as such in the regulations of the Madrid Assembly. In order for this punishment vote to be held, Más Madrid has included it in a non-law proposal, which will reach the plenary session next week. The ruse is not only one more example of how the case of the minors has taken on political life, it has already become one more argument for the daily and routine clash between the deputies of the different parties. It is also the pickaxe with which a new gap can begin to open between the PP and Vox, the two right-wing allies, who need each other but do not want each other, and have found a new point of friction in this controversy.
“I ask you to open a study commission, to lead it, do not let the left take this flag,” says Rocío Monasterio, the spokesperson for the extreme right, to the president of the Community of Madrid.
—I am sorry that Vox does not miss the opportunity to join commissions to twist the pain in the Assembly, one more—, Ayuso answers.

One more, says the president, invoking a past that doesn’t exist, just as Pedro warned that the wolf was coming when it never came. Because at the beginning of the legislature, Vox announced that it would support the left so that what happened in the regional residences during the first wave of the pandemic could continue to be investigated, when some 5,000 people died and the triage protocols prevented the transfer of the sick. older people living in these centers to hospitals. And Ayuso flew into a rage. And Monastery rectified. There was no commission.
Consequently, it is necessary to go back to the previous legislature to find that “one more” in which Vox allowed to investigate the Avalmadrid case, to clarify how it was possible that a company owned by the president’s father had obtained a guarantee of 400,000 euros, and had not returned it in full. The conclusion was that this semi-public body had given him “preferential” and “irregular” treatment.
“They are creating a case where there is none and they are covering up the cases where they do happen,” Ayuso accuses, diluting what has happened in Madrid and underlining what has happened in other communities. “Demagoguery is easy,” he adds, calling a possible investigation a “circus.” “It is not happening in the centers themselves, nor at the hands of their professionals. What happens outside is much more difficult to prosecute”, he states in his attempt to dilute government responsibility. And he shoots at the left-wing governments of the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands: “The known cases shock everyone. The difference between one and the other is in how one acts when these cases happen. This protection has not been lacking in our centers, I want to vindicate the work of our professionals. In case of irregular conduct by them, we would not take a single minute to act, something that has not always happened in other communities with much larger cases within the same centers.
Before and after, the opposition regrets what happened. “What happened with the girls in care is a drama, a horror, which shows that we are very far from eradicating any sexist violence, and that public institutions have failed these girls,” says, for example, Carolina Alonso, the spokeswoman for We can. “We need to fix it. Put aside partisan interests and protect children in the region. You have committed to drawing up a law for children, but it must be done by listening to the people, the professionals, the victims”.
Ayuso listens, but doesn’t get to the bottom of the case when he answers. That remains for a subsequent appearance by the counselor Dancausa, to be held this Thursday. Which is also politics. As the Community of Madrid denied that there were minors protected by the Administration involved in the case, when there were, and then Ayuso starred in an appearance in which he left more doubts than certainties, the Executive has activated the damage control mode. And all the wear and tear falls on the counselor, whose future and continuity in the Executive will be marked by controversy.
