Mexico City.- Currently in Mexico there are no longer active foci of avian influenza behind the quarantine lifting declared this week in Yucatan, 28 days after the last contagion detected, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader).
“The withdrawal of the quarantine in Yucatán is the fourth authorized by the General Directorate of Animal Health (DGSA) of the National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica) since the first detection of the virus in Mexico, in mid-October 2022. “, the agency pointed out.
So, after a little more than three months from the first detected outbreak of Avian Influenza of high pathogenicity AH5N1 in the country, the virus no longer circulates in Poultry Production Units of Nuevo León, Jalisco, Sonora, or Yucatán, entities under observation after confirmed outbreaks.
La Sader informed that it will be until the end of the winter season that the vaccination of progenitor, breeding and commercial hens in strategic areas ends.
“So far, Senasica has authorized the application of more than 174 million doses of the biological in commercial farms located in areas of high animal health risk and in UPA where there are progenitor, reproductive and commercial laying hens.
“It should be noted that 10 percent of these doses went to production units in Yucatan,” Sader said.
Between October of last year and February, 50 positive cases were detected in 13 states, with 5.9 million birds culled.
Sader explained that this number of infected birds represents 0.3 percent of the national poultry production.
