Over the last few years, the microphone market has really expanded dramatically, and it takes a few minutes to be able to find dozens of devices potentially suitable for your purposes, with improvements and price changes here and there given by the huge offer currently present. In the amount of products available there are also some gems of large companies, which often manage to focus on the details necessary for certain types of users in order to reduce the final price and make their devices much more competitive. This is the case with AverMedia, which while always managing to offer products with an undisputed high quality, often manages to be rather aggressive also on the price side, as is the case, for example, for the new AverMedia Live Streamer MIC 330, which we want to talk to you about in depth within this review.
Quality and design
The device in question is presented as imaginable in a box that reflects its quality, and by extracting it you immediately realize how the materials used are really of the highest level, and the general resistance can be the envy of much cheaper items. Inside the packaging of theAverMedia Live Streamer MIC 330 we tell you about in this review (you can buy it through this link) we find a cable XLR, a interchangeable color ring, L’threaded adapter from 5/8 “to 3/8” and the inevitable guide to discover all the details of the device on the fly.
The device is basically presented with a predominant black color, and as an interesting detail it presents in the final part a red circle reminiscent of the main color of the company. However, considering this may not suit all environments, the behemoth has decided to include a black ring as well, to provide the whole with a slightly more understated design. If we talked about XLR cable it is because theAverMedia Live Streamer MIC 330, considering the high quality it wants to offer, it does not rely on the classics 3.5mm jack or USB ports, and instead requires the use of an external sound card or compatible motherboard in order to be connected to the computer and used.
Obviously, it is good to take this into account before proceeding with the purchase, considering that the gadget could affect the price. The same happens for the auction, which unfortunately was not included by the company, but is necessary for assembly. For the rest, it is possible improve performance with additional appliances as anti-pop and anti-vibration, but the device is immediately usable and fully functional.
Compromises for a competitive price
Despite having to do with a device that is not exactly cheap, since this is available for approx € 100 at the time of writing this review of theAverMedia Live Streamer MIC 330 , it should be specified that it is not a condenser microphone, but a dynamic one. This has the positive side of the possibility of specifically capturing the nearby voice, which in fact makes it sensible precisely for its main use, streaming and recording, whether it is generic live or podcast.
The voice of the recorder is therefore put in the first place, with excellent results, but it must be said that some specific uses may be difficult to associate with the device in question, such as for example the capture of musical instruments. Moreover, it is not even present an external anti-pop in the package, since the company has opted for an internal solution, perhaps in order to save on the budget, perhaps for the design. This does not actually perform an egregious task for situations outside the norm, even if the performance of the device is still excellent for spaces that are not perfectly soundproofed and optimized, and an external support can really change the quality of the recorded audio.
The fact that it is a dynamic device should obviously not be taken as a defect, the more considered based on its uses, and precisely this factor could make it perfect for the needs of some specific users, although this actually classifies it as less versatile. The audio recording, although not crystal clear and in some cases requiring post-production work, managed to surprise us positively, given the care that AverMedia has placed not only in the general quality and resistance of the product, but also for its features.
