Of this New Imperial 250cc Douglas Prentice won the Junior TT in the Isle of Man in 1921. After a failed attempt in 1901, New Imperial began serial production of motorcycles in 1910, and in 1913 the young firm took part in the TT races at Man. In 1921 New Imperial entered five 250cc JAP bikes for the Junior TT and although four were eliminated, Douglas Prentice won the class with an average speed of 72.13 km/h. After the race, new Imperial boss Norman Downs handed over the winning machine to Prentice.
New Imperial switched to its own bikes by the late 1920s and although the 1930s brought less success in the Isle of Man TT, Bob Foster’s 1936 win in the Lightweight TT was the last to be achieved by a British-made machine. achieved before World War II.
