The association of automatic service stations warns that Andalusia, Murcia and Valencia already suffer from shortages
The carriers’ strike has lasted more than a week and one of the sectors in which its effects are being harshly felt is in the gas stations. The
National Association of Automatic Service Stations (Aesae), which represents the interests of low-cost establishments, has published a statement stating that, if it continues like this,
“Spain would be involved in an unprecedented crisis”.
“At the moment, the regions that are most worrying are Andalusia and the Levante area (Valencia and Murcia),” they maintain, with the more than 1,300 automatic stations suffering from supply problems in their pumps.
According to the organization, the strike, along with inflation and prices hitting daily highs, is especially detrimental to the self-employed and SMEs. «
Since the energy crisis began, demand at stations has increased by 20%, since the partners have sold the final product without a profit margin ».
This strategic decision, as counterproductive as it may seem, has been generalized among service stations —even traditional ones—, to try to build long-term customer loyalty.
Aesae requests that the minimum supply services for key infrastructures be guaranteed, “such as automatic gas stations, which offer the most vulnerable consumers an economic alternative in a context of inflation.”
Finally, they also demand that the Government’s measures be brought forward to lower the price of fuel, “since
waiting until the end of the month can have devastating consequences for the Spanish population».
