FAS Russia will analyze prices for the most popular types of fish
The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of the Russian Federation will analyze prices for the most popular types of fish products. In a message on the department’s website notedthat we are talking about pollock, cod, haddock, herring and pink salmon.
To this end, the department sent requests to fishing organizations and suppliers regarding the volumes of catch and primary processing, information about packaging, transportation, the cost structure of fish products, conditions and terms of their storage.
Taking into account the fact that FAS has already received information from retail chains about the monthly dynamics of weighted average purchase and retail prices for fish, the entire supply chain “from fisherman to counter” is being investigated, the Service indicated.
As Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko said this week, prices for pink salmon have almost doubled over the year, reaching 270 rubles per kilogram in the Far East, and the cost of cod fillet reaches 2,000 per kilogram, although white fish has always been considered cheaper. According to her, the situation with prices in the industry should be analyzed together with the FAS, since this type of product turned out to be inaccessible to a large part of citizens.
The Association of Fisheries Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Exporters of Russia (VARPE) confirmed the sharp increase in prices for pink salmon in Russia, calling it the reason for the 20-year minimum in production. Against the backdrop of rising prices for domestic fish, the authorities proposed exporting it from the Far East along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) – as the media learned, the Ministry of Eastern Development asked businesses to speak out on the advisability of introducing special support measures to increase the volume of transportation of relevant products by water.
