San Juan.- The authorities in Puerto Rico intervened with the help of hikers this Saturday in a river after some tourists tried to enter despite warnings to visit bodies of water due to the rains this weekend.
Officers from the Emergency Management and Disaster Administration Bureau (Nmead), the Municipal Office for Emergency Management and the Puerto Rico Police interceded with an excursion company on the Charco Frío River in Ceiba (east).
“It is important that people do NOT visit bodies of water while the weather conditions are rainy,” exhorted the Nmead in a tweet.
Last Thursday, local authorities said they were alert to the possibility of flooding and that the rivers leave their beds due to the rains that are expected to fall this weekend on the island due to the passage of a trough.
“This is not the time to visit beaches, rivers, lakes or other bodies of water. This weekend we don’t want anyone in the water. The SNM alerted us to a system that will be causing rains, mostly intermittent but copious,” warned Nmead commissioner Nino Correa.
“We need citizens to be alert, do not cross flooded roads and if you live in flood zones, consider moving out of the area ahead of time. We can’t let our guard down. Hurricane season ends on November 30,” he added.
The trough, at the moment, has left several landslides this Saturday and the collapse of a highway.
The landslides are in Peñuelas and Juana Díaz, municipalities on the southern coast of Puerto Rico, the Nmead reported on its Twitter account.

Likewise, it is expected that the precipitation will deteriorate the maritime conditions due to the passage of the trough.
