They will not be able to eat in restaurants, attend sporting events or use chair lifts in ski resorts, among other activities
The entry into force this Monday of maximum restrictions in Austria for those who are not immunized or have overcome a coronavirus infection, which practically lead to their social marginalization, has led to a wave of mass vaccination. Given the exponential increase in infections in the Alpine republic, the federal government has prohibited since this week the entry into all types of premises, from restaurants to hairdressers, through bars, museums or sports stadiums to those who have not been vaccinated against Covid- 19. Since the announcement of the drastic measure last Friday, Austrian vaccination centers have registered an overwhelming influx with queues that prolonged the wait for several hours. In some regions such as Salzburg, where the weekly average of vaccinations did not exceed 2,000 vaccinations, more than 1,400 people came spontaneously to immunize on Saturday. In the rest of the Austrian regions and large cities, many unvaccinated people flocked to receive their first dose
The pressure on the unvaccinated in the Alpine republic has increased in recent days, not only because of the threat of being excluded from entering the vast majority of leisure venues, but also because of the requirement established in early November that the Non-immunized workers or those who have overcome a coronavirus infection must present a negative PCR test in their companies at least once a week to avoid the prohibition of not being able to work and losing wages for days lost. The new restriction will be in effect at least until Christmas, as announced by the Austrian Federal Chancellor, the Conservative Alexander Schallenberg, and the Federal Vice Chancellor, the Green Werner Kogler. The incidence rate of the virus in Austria is currently 599.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, three times more than in Germany.
The Austrian example is currently being debated in Germany, where the president of the Federal College of Physicians, Klaus Reinhardt, is also in favor of allowing access to restaurants, shows, hairdressers or bars only to those who are vaccinated or have overcome a coronavirus infection. Epidemiologists such as the Social Democratic deputy Karl Lauterbach defend that those who are not vaccinated can only access food stores or drugstores, places where basic necessities are sold.
