Australian city of Melbourne out of lockdown
The lockdown in the Australian city of Melbourne has come to an end now that 70 percent of the population in the state of Victoria has been fully vaccinated.
Residents of Australia’s second largest city reacted enthusiastically. On social media you can see how a huge cheer goes up at midnight.
In total, the city’s five million residents have spent 262 days in lockdown since the start of the pandemic. Melbourne therefore has the dubious honor of having been in lockdown the longest. In second place is the Argentine city of Buenos Aires, where the population of 244 was obliged to stay inside.
