Australia has imposed sanctions against 28 Russians associated with referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions on joining Russia.
In a statement published on October 2 on website Australian Foreign Office, the list of Russians is not given. However, it is specified that financial restrictions are imposed on them. In addition, they were banned from entering the country.
“These additional sanctions reinforce Australia’s strong protest against the President’s actions. [России Владимира] Putin and those who carry out his orders. The territories of Ukraine that are currently occupied by Russian troops are the sovereign territory of Ukraine. No fake referendum will change that,” Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said in a statement.
On the eve of the United States introduced a new package of sanctions against Russia because of the entry into its four regions. A number of members of the State Duma and the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, as well as companies from China, Belarus and Armenia, were subject to restrictions for supporting Russia.
Earlier in the day, Bloomberg wrote that the new sanctions against Moscow would not have a significant impact on the Russian economy, Russian President Vladimir Putin would be able to support it through oil and gas revenues.
On September 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed agreements on the entry of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the Russian Federation. The signing ceremony took place in the Georgievsky Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace.
In his speech, Putin said that the prospect of imposing sanctions against Russia excites not all states. The head of state noted that everyone who tries to challenge Western hegemony is considered an enemy. According to him, it is on dominance that the US and NATO military doctrines are built.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region due to increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
