After becoming a trend in the world of soccer for the video that shows him throwing goalkeeper Pedro Gallese’s water bottle (in which the collection styles of the Peruvian players were noted), Australian goalkeeper Andrew RedMayne explained in detail the reason for his action. Furthermore, he revealed that everything was properly planned.
‘It was a matter of kill or be killed’
Australian goalkeeper Andrew RedMayne said Thursday that it was a matter of “kill or be killed” after a video appeared in which he is seen throwing a bottle of water out of the reach of his Peruvian counterpart during the penalty shootout that took the “Socceroos” to the World Cup.
Redmayne, 33, became an internet sensation for his eccentric moves on the goal line to throw opponents off center before each 11-metre shot.

After sorting, was received as a hero in Australia for his save from Alex Valera’s penalty, which gave Australia a 5-4 victory on penalties in Doha on Tuesday. But hours later some images came to light in which the bearded RedMayne, who had entered from the bench for the penalty shootout, appears throwing a bottle from the Peruvian goalkeeper Pedro Gallese. The bottle presumably contained a piece of paper indicating where the Australians could take penalties.
“Yes, that happened, we talked about it,” Redmayne confessed after landing on Australian soil.
“I know how much it means to the boys so it was like kill or be killed so I seized my moment”he added.
“If we had notes in our bottle and someone saw it they would have thrown it away,” RedMayne concluded.

Notes attached to a water bottle indicating possible penalty shots is a recurring tactic for goalkeepers in penalty shootouts.
