Unemployment rises 2.4% in the last month and the year-on-year decrease is reduced from 21% to 8% since June
The evolution of the labor market, like other economic indicators, continues to fuel fears of a recession. July has already set off the alarms: it is usually a good month for unemployment due to summer contracts, but this year it left an unusual increase. August, which is usually negative due to the end of the summer season, confirmed the slowdown in employment. The data published this Friday reveal that the number of unemployed registered in the SEPE offices rose by 2.4% in the last month in the Region of Murcia, the second largest increase by communities.
In absolute terms, the increase in the Community was 2,153 unemployed, which brings the total to 92,044. Only Catalonia (2.8%) recorded a worse relative figure. August, as expected, has been bad for the country as a whole, but not so much: unemployment increased by 1.4% on average in Spain, and five communities managed to reduce unemployment.
It is true that the year-on-year comparison is still positive in the Region of Murcia, but this data also reflects a slowdown. The fall in unemployment in the last twelve months is 8.74%, the fifth worst figure by communities. In June, on the other hand, it rose to 21%. The national average is over 12%.
