On the day that celebrates Children’s Day (12), the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights (MMFDH) announced that Brazil reached the milestone of 119.8 thousand complaints of violations of the rights of children and adolescents among the months of January to September this year. The numbers are from Dial 100. Last year, the total number of complaints reached 153.4 thousand.
In about 66% of cases, the aggression takes place indoors (79,872). According to the survey, the aggression comes mainly from the parents: 51,293 of the aggressions were committed by the mother and 20,296 by the father. The survey does not specify the type of aggression suffered.
Experts point out some signs to identify if a child is being abused. Check out the main ones:
“It’s a very high number. We need to put an end to violence, especially against children and adolescents, who are the future of our nation. To overcome this situation, we must denounce the cases, demand action from the responsible authorities and raise awareness in the families”, highlights Minister Damares Alves.
The Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights (MMFDH) has several channels so that any type of violence against children and adolescents can be denounced.
How to report:
The federal government provides several channels to assist victims of child abuse. Among them is the National Human Rights Ombudsman, which works through the Dial 100 service and which now has numbers on WhatsApp and Telegram (just type in Direitoshumanosbrasilbot in the application).
The federal government’s National Secretariat for the Rights of Children and Adolescents has a primer with information about sexual abuse. It contains information such as the concepts of sexual abuse and exploitation of children and adolescents, myths and truths about these crimes, the aggressor’s methods and the profile of the victims.
