To attack Giorgia Meloni, yesterday, Bettino Craxi’s son Bobo posted the headline of “Il Popolo d’Italia”, the PNF newspaper, on Twitter, in the aftermath of the crime, in 1924, by Hon. Giacomo Matteotti, courageous deputy of the PSI: “Hon. Matteo is the victim of a horrendous political crime”. Eyelet: Benito Mussolini: “I don’t know the matrix”.
It is true, as the great German philosopher and economist, Karl Marx said, that history always repeats itself twice: the first, as a tragedy, the second, as a farce.
But, while respecting Maurizio Landini, the secretary of the CGIL, attacked by the fascists of Forza Nuova, he has neither the charisma nor the stature, political and moral, which Matteotti demonstrated, on the benches of the Chamber, in the early 1920s, giving voice to the opposition, not only of the socialists, to the violence and aggression of the squads against the anti-PNF, throughout the country. A voice and a parliamentarian who, failing to counter, with the weapons of politics, Mussolini entrusted the dagger of Amerigo Dùmini, the main perpetrator of the kidnapping and murder of Matteotti.
And, in Italy in 2021, 97 years after that tragic event, Giorgia Meloni, born 32 years after the Duce’s shooting and very effective in responding to Provenzano, PD, who had asked for her expulsion from the “constitutional and democratic ”- cannot be compared to Benito Mussolini, whose niece, Rachele, was elected by her fellow citizens as a city councilor in Rome of FdI. And it should not be criminalized for the surname it bears: it would be – even for an old anti-fascist, such as the journalist Pierone Sansonetti, former son-in-law of Ingrao, PCI – a “manifestation of fascism”.
