Finland The Sports Confederation (SUL) named more than 200 athletes for the next training and competition season.
The groups may be supplemented during the rest of the year if the selection criteria are met. The elections took place according to the policies decided for the years 2021–2024.
Director of coaching and training at SUL Jarkko Finni emphasizes that the association’s coaching supports athletes in the long term, i.e. despite adversity.
“That’s why some of the athletes selected now will be in the coaching group based on the results or success of 2021,” says Finni in the sports announcement.
For example, hurdlers who were on the sidelines due to summer injuries or illnesses Nooralotta Neziri and Annimari Korte and a sprinter Lotta Kemppinen still belong to the top group.
SUL divides athletes into two camps, Team Finland and national team athletes. Team Finland is the number one team in Finnish athletics.
The main members of Team Finland consist of the same athletes who represented Finland in the summer WC and EC competitions.
“The Team Finland group includes top athletes in the general category and young people who have achieved a high level of results and achieved success, the youngest of whom will compete in the under-20 category next season,” says Finni.
If a young athlete reaches the result level of the general series, he is taken into account in all activities and support according to the principles of the adult series.
Team The Team Finland program complex is built around the athlete selected for the Finland coaching group and his coach.
The overall support for the training of Team Finland athletes and coaches is partly affected by whether the athlete is selected for the enhancement support of the Top Sports Unit of the Olympic Committee.
These support decisions will be determined by the beginning of December.
The main forms of support for the athletes of the national team coaching group are the national team program of their own sport, the services and assistance of the Athletics Centers, and the association’s international competition activities.
