Athletics Eemil Helander ran his first adult Finnish championship

Jyväskylän Field athletes Eemil Helander won the first Finnish adult championship in his career when he finished the men’s four-kilometer Finnish Championships halfway. “I’ve been touring the youth series for a long time,” Helander, pleased with the championship, said, but recalled that, above all, the cross-country race was a good and hard exercise before the track season.

In the spring, Helander camped with Raitanen and a few other Finnish runners in Flagstaff, USA, but Helander is not yet able to keep up with Raitanen.

“Topi is running harder,” Helander laughed in response to a question about what the duo’s difference is in camping pace.

Helander’s goals are also in the hurdles, as the young man is looking forward to the European Championships in Munich in August. The difference compared to last season is that in the past, Helander always practiced winter on the terms of his second sport, but now he gets from runner winter to runner summer.

“Running is now more economical already in the spring,” Helander compared.

Helander reached the World Championships in Youth in Medium in February 2021 in Vuokatti, but chose athletics as his main sport.

In Nakkila’s Finnish Championships, Helander bent Kataja in Joensuu Mika Kotirannan in ten seconds. Lahti Ahkeran Ossi Kekki was third after losing a silver medalist to Kotiranta for two seconds. Kekki also ran for ten Finnish Championship silver in Nakkila.

IK Falkenin Nathalie Blomqvist new four-kilometer women’s championship in Finland, when she won a trip to Satakunta as well as last year’s Joensuu Games. Blomqvist, who was keeping up the fast pace, escaped Lahti’s Ahkera in good time From Kristiina Mäki and won this in 24 seconds.

Like Helander, Blomqvist camped in Flagstaff, and the 11-week run went great.

“I’ve even been a little shocked at what times I’ve been able to train,” Blomqvist, who looks at 1,500 meters in the summer, said.

He will open his track season on May 21 in Karlsruhe, Germany. The cancellation of the Universiade took one big goal from Blomqvist, but reaching the European Championship team is possible if the season continues to rise.

“In recent years, the spring has been going well so far, but then things have gone worse. You have to keep your head cold, ”Blomqvist said.

Mäki, who represents the Czech Republic in the championships, is looking forward to the summer of two championships, as he has already reached the result limits for the World Championships and European Championships at the Tokyo Olympics.

Suolahden Urhon Saija Seppä was third in the Finnish Championships. He missed the winner by a minute and four seconds.
