Athletics | Armand Duplantis lost the pole vault after more than a year of winning streak

Armand Duplantis finished 581 in Brussels.

in Brussels the athletics Diamond League competition saw a result that has been rare in recent times. Swedish pole vault star and world record holder Armand Duplantis was left second in the competition.

Duplantis’ winning streak was broken by the 26-year-old from the Philippines Ernest Obiena, which succeeded at the last possible moment. Obiena went over the height of 591 on his third and final attempt and went on to win the competition.

Prior to the crossing, Obiena and Duplantis had both cleared 581, but Duplantis went over this height on his first attempt, Obiena on only her second attempt.

Duplantis managed to be undefeated in the pole vault for more than a year. The last time he went without a win was on August 26 last year, then in the Lausanne Diamond League competition.

Obiena, who won the competition, has a record of 594. He is the bronze medalist of the World Championships in Eugene.

Duplantis will not compete in Sweden’s ranks this weekend in the Finland-Sweden national match.
