Annimari Korte would like to participate in the European Athletics Championships in Rome.
Korte, a fast-pitcher, ended his career a week ago.
Kortetta has not been announced for the Games, but he would have liked to replace the injured Nooralotta Neziri.
Quick beeper Annimari Korte ended his career a week and a half ago, but now he would still like to participate in the European Athletics Championships in Rome. There’s just one problem.
Korte, 36, ran the last race of his career in Helsinki at the Eläintarha field on Sunday, May 26, after which the Finnish Sports Federation (SUL) announced that Korte had finished his career. In his farewell race, Korte cleared the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.26.
“I don’t think it makes sense to compete when it doesn’t feel so good anymore. There are so many other things in life right now that I would like to do more of. I feel that it would be a waste of my time to try to compete now in the summer, when I could be doing everything else that I’m more excited about,” Korte stated in SUL’s press release.
Now the mind has changed.
Chosen of Rome Nooralotta Neziri has to miss the European Championships, and Korte would have liked Nezir to replace him.
“I wish I could have ended my career at the European Championships, but the European Athletics Federation does not accept late registrations for last-minute withdrawals,” Korte writes on Instagram.
Finland had four runners eligible for the European Championship, and in addition to Nezir, they were selected for the competition Lotta Harala and Reetta Hurske. Kortte’s time of 12.83, which qualified him for the European Championships, was from last year. According to him, that would have been enough for a place in the semi-finals.
“After writing this, I was told that the Finnish Federation did not notify me, even though they knew about my desire to compete there. If I had been notified in time, I could have participated when someone missed out.”
“I ended my career a week ago because I didn’t make it to the Games. However, I continued to practice just in case. Of course, it would have been great to postpone the decision of the career by one run in the prestigious race.”
To the card The 100-meter hurdles record remains 12.72 set in the summer of 2019. The result was a Finnish record until last year, when Hurske reduced the time by two hundredths of a second.
Korte represented Finland in three general category competitions: at the European Championships in Berlin 2018, at the World Championships in Doha in 2019 and at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Korte said after his last competition that he would focus on dog sled competitions and coaching in the future.
