Mexico City- On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, which arrived on June 27, Atari announced the launch of a collection of 90 of its classic games for next-generation consoles and PCs.
This compilation, called ‘Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration’, will arrive at the end of the year for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Not all the video games that this group of titles will have have been specified, but it was anticipated that they will be the most prominent ones that were launched for the Arcade, 2600, 5200, 7800, Atari 8-bit, Jaguar and Lynx platforms.
However, it was revealed that Digital Eclipse, the company behind the project, developed 6 new games that it ‘reimagined’ from old Atari titles.
These are: Swordquest: AirWorld, Haunted Houses, VCTR-SCTR, Neo Breakout, Quadratanque and Yars’ Revenge Reimagined, which will be included in the compilation.
In addition, the collection will also feature 60 minutes of exclusive interviews with people involved in the world of video games, which will explain a little about what the industry was like 50 years ago.
Atari was one of the pioneers of the world of video games. In 1972, the year of its foundation, it launched Pong, the first title in the sector that was a bestseller.
Then they gave another bump in the industry by launching the Atari 2600, a console that sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.
Finally, after several years and successes, bad business decisions with its Jaguar console and the failure of the title of ET the extraterrestrial, dragged the company into bankruptcy.
In recent years, Atari has been re-releasing several of its products, such as the Atari VCS, which went on sale last year, a strategy that it repeats with this collection of classic games that will be released in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Its official price for Mexico was not announced, but it will be sold in the United States market at a price of 40 dollars, so its price could be around 800 and a thousand pesos.
