Italian Atalanta has activated the clause to purchase the contract of Belgian attacking midfielder Charles de Ketelaar from Milan, after a successful season in its ranks, according to what the Bergamo City Club announced.
The European League champion, Europa League, wrote in a brief statement, “Atalanta is pleased to announce the permanent signing of footballer Charles de Ketelaar.”
The 23-year-old player excelled in the ranks of Atalanta after coming on loan from Milan last summer, scoring 14 goals in 11 matches, in a historic season for coach Gianpiero Gasperini’s team.
The victory in the “Europa League” was the first major title for Atalanta in 61 years, and it also qualified for next season’s edition of the Champions League with its new system.
De Ketelaar disappointed the hopes placed on him in Milan, after his transfer for 35 million euros from Brugge two years ago, as he scored one goal in 40 matches with the “Rossoneri”.
Atalanta activated the purchase option on the player’s contract, which is reportedly worth 23 million euros.
De Ketelaar is currently competing in the European Football Cup in Germany with his country’s national team, where the “Red Devils” face Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine in Group Five.
