The state network “Russia Today” said that Ukrainian MP and journalist Denis Kirev was killed in Kyiv, Saturday, by “agents of the Ukrainian General Security Service” while trying to arrest him.
Kirev, who had a background in banking, appeared at the far right of the negotiating table alongside other Ukrainian officials, during the first round of negotiations that took place on Monday on the Ukrainian border with Belarus.
Despite his appearance in the photos, the list of members of the delegation participating in the negotiations published by Kyiv did not include Kerev’s name, so his status is still ambiguous.
In February, a Ukrainian television report said that Kirev had been under investigation for alleged links with Russian intelligence services since at least 2020.
“The investigation with the deputy was stopped because he has strong links with officials of the Ukrainian General Security Service,” the report stated.
The first and second rounds of negotiations between Moscow and Kiev did not result in any progress, while a third round is expected to be held on Monday.
