Hundreds of people have been evacuated from a Sydney shopping center this Saturday, after a man stabbed several people and killed six of them, according to Australian Police. The agents have shot dead the aggressor. Police said in a statement that, at this time, they do not believe the stabbing is linked to a terrorist attack.
Anthony Cooke, assistant commissioner of the New South Wales State Police, explained, in statements reported by ABC state television, that several people have been taken to hospital, some of them in serious condition. Cooke has indicated that the attacks have been carried out by a single individual. At least eight people have been injured, including a nine-month-old child and his mother.
The incident took place shortly before four in the afternoon, local time, at a time of great influx in the shopping centre, located near Bondi beach. Several posts on social media show crowds of people fleeing the shopping center and police cars and emergency services rushing to the area.
These types of attacks are rare in Australia, a country that has some of the strictest gun and knife legislation in the world. “It was a horrible act of violence, directed indiscriminately against innocent people who were shopping on a normal Saturday,” lamented Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at a press conference.

I have been briefed by the AFP on the devastating events at Bondi Junction.
Tragically, multiple casualties have been reported and the first thoughts of all Australians are with those affected and their loved ones.
