At least 66 Gazans were killed and more than a hundred injured this Thursday in the Israeli bombing of a residential building near the Kamal Adwan hospital in the city of Beit Lahia, in northern Gaza, medical sources confirmed.
Among the dead are many women and children, in an attack described by the Palestinian news agency Wafa as a “horrible massacre”, while there are fears that bodies still remain under the rubble as rescue teams cannot reach the destroyed houses. .
Kamal Adwan’s medical staff is the one who is pulling victims out of the rubble with their own hands due to a lack of equipment and rescue personnel, according to a statement from the center, in which they also denounce that they can only provide first aid due to the lack of specialized surgeons.
“The hospital will become a mass grave if there is no urgent intervention from international institutions and medical supplies are not introduced,” said its director, Hosam Abu Safiya.
The center was raided by Israeli troops in October and the army arrested more than 40 patients and medical staff, in addition to bombing its oxygen generators.
This morning’s attack in Beit Lahia occurred hours after another Israeli bombing, which caused 22 deaths, in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, about three kilometers northwest of Gaza City.
The Israeli offensive in the north of the enclave, resumed at the beginning of October, has caused more than 2,000 deaths and some 6,000 wounded, according to Palestinian sources. The Army assures that its troops are trying to prevent, for the third time, Hamas militiamen from regrouping in this area, currently under siege and with the majority of its population displaced to the south.
With the recent deaths, the total death toll in the Gaza Strip has exceeded 44,000 since the start of the war in the enclave in October 2023, according to data from the Gaza Ministry of Health.
