At least 33 Gazans have died, including 13 children, in Jabalia, north of the Gaza Strip after Israeli fighter jets bombed a house with residents and where displaced people were also taking refuge, according to the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa.
The bombing caused the “total destruction of the house”, where several people are still under the rubble and injured several others who were taken to the Baptist Hospital.
The Israeli Army, for its part, has indicated that its operation in Jabalia continues and that during the last day they killed dozens of militiamen and dismantled sites of “terrorist infrastructure.” “Troops also located weapons and a tunnel shaft in Beit Lahia,” they said in the statement.
The north of the enclave continues to be the point hardest hit by Israeli troops since the beginning of last October when they resumed their offensive under the thesis that Hamas was trying to regroup in the area.
Since then, at least 1,800 people have died in the north of the Strip, which includes Jabalia and its refugee camp, Beit Lahia and Bei Hanoun, according to the latest official figure published by the Palestinian authorities last Tuesday.
This Saturday, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, Herzi Halevi, assured that his troops have killed about 1,000 Palestinian militiamen during their offensive in the area. “It is a significant achievement that is a serious blow to Hamas,” Halevi said.
Estimates from the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) indicate that between 75,000 and 95,000 people remain in the besieged area of the northern Strip, while tens of thousands have had to flee to Gaza City because of Israeli attacks.
In Jabalia and its refugee camp alone, which housed the largest population among the three besieged cities, 70,000 people fled to the capital or moved to Beit Lahia or Beit Hanoun after the entry of Israeli troops.
