An accident on the highway from Mexico City to Puebla has caused at least 14 deaths. At the edge of noon this Saturday, urban surveillance cameras (C5) recorded a chain collision initiated by a cargo truck. According to preliminary information, the vehicle lost control and hit a dozen cars on the way. The damage was even greater after a fire broke out in the truck. The fire spread through the rest of the accident vehicles. Among the deceased, there are at least three minors.
The event occurred at the height of the municipality of San Marcos, in the State of Mexico, a few kilometers before entering Puebla. Specifically, on a steep slope in the area of the so-called Sierra Nevada. At the same point, another accident occurred a month ago with two trucks that apparently also ran out of brakes. The agency in charge of Federal Highways, Roads and Bridges (CAPUFE) has announced the temporary closure of traffic on the section.
