At least 10 people were injured in an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 in southwestern Japan, the agency reports on January 22 Kyodo with reference to government data.
According to the local prefects, in the city of Oita, six people were injured, mostly minor. In Miyazaki, police confirmed four people were injured, including a woman in her 50s who fell out of bed. Injuries have also been reported in Saga and Kumamoto prefectures in Kyushu.
The exact number of those injured is yet to be established, as of Saturday afternoon there were more than 10, Kyodo reports.
In addition, according to the agency, after the earthquake in Oita there was a temporary power outage. Water pipe bursts have been reported at several locations in the city.
At the same time, it is noted that the earthquake did not lead to a failure in the operation of nuclear power plants located in the region.
An earthquake hit southwestern Japan on Saturday night. Tremors were recorded at 1:08 Saturday local time (19:08 Friday Moscow time). The source of the earthquake lay under water at a depth of 42 km.
