The agency states that consumption is reduced by 30% when slowing down, although many drivers point out the difficulties involved when driving on the highway
A well-intentioned advice from the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has unleashed not a few criticisms on Twitter.
In its profile, the DGT has recommended drivers to circulate at 90 kilometers per hour. It is, says the traffic authority, the ideal speed to obtain optimum fuel consumption.
“In addition to safety reasons, there are also consumer reasons for not driving faster than you should,” argues the DGT in its profile. “The ideal fuel consumption is at 90 km / h. If you increase to 120 km / h, the consumption
The agency does not specify what type of roads it refers to in its message, although currently it is only possible to circulate at 120 per hour on highways and expressways.
Numerous netizens have protested precisely because of the difficulty of driving at 90 on these roads, which makes it difficult to follow the advice of the DGT in practice.
“Driving at 90 km / h on a 120 highway is suicide. No truck is going to slow down and it is gambling with them »points out Mario Peñalosa. «True, I have checked, except when they go up loaded, and there if, at 95 km you overtake them, and then downhill or flat they give it back to you. It is dangerous to go like this, more than anything because of the trucks that tend to go at that average speed, ”says another driver, identified as Luis Carlos.
There are even those who have decided to put into practice the advice of the body,
with little success. “I’ve been driving for a scant 15 minutes at 90 an hour. In that interval, several dangerous situations have been generated, ”says JF Calero, Carwow’s editorial director, who has recorded a video of the experience.
I have been circulating for 15 minutes scarce at 90 km / h on the highway, as recommended by the @DGTes. In that short time, several dangerous situations have been generated, one serious. A truck passed me. The actual traffic is going 120-180 km / h, as can be seen. https://t.co/iJdEBQZaLm

It should be remembered that exceeding the speed limits can mean a serious or very serious infraction, whose penalty would be between 100 and 600 euros and, even, suppose a loss between 2 and 6 points, depending on the number of kilometers in which it is exceeded the established limit. Cars, motorcycles, pick-ups and motorhomes with a maximum authorized mass of less than 3,500 kg can reach speeds of 120 per hour on motorways and motorways, and 90 on conventional roads,
as they remember from the RACE.
