The case of Marta Perez, the 19-year-old from Alicante who ended up in a coma due to an unusual allergic reaction, caused great concern and highlighted the seriousness of food allergies. The girl, who has always suffered from an allergy to pistachio, drank a protein shake that contained this very ingredient, triggering an anaphylactic reaction that led to her coma.
The reaction to ingesting the smoothie was immediate with a respiratory crisis followed by cardiac arrest which culminated in a coma. Almost two years after the accident, Marta is still in a critical situation and her parents are constantly looking for new therapeutic solutions to help her recover. The young woman is currently being followed in one private clinic in Valencia, Virgen de los Lirios of Alcoy where he is receiving neuro rehabilitation treatments in the hope of recovering at least part of his brain functions compromised by the episode.
Marta's family has launched a fundraising campaign to allow the girl to access new specialized treatments and therapies, with the aim of improving her conditions and offering her the possibility of a better life. Through this it is possible to contribute to the collection of 35 thousand euros necessary to finance the new treatment.
