An asteroid passed very close to the Earth and the space agencies were not even aware. This asteroid passed just less than 300 miles from Earth. The asteroid named 2020VT4 passed over 250 miles or 400 km of the earth on 13 November and the astronomers were not detected. The Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) came to know of it only when it exited the Earth.
Asteroid so close
Actually, it came from a place which is called ‘Blind Spot’ i.e. this asteroid came from the direction of the sun. Astronomers say that this asteroid was so close to Earth that the Earth’s gravity changed its orbit. Astronomers Tony Dunn said, “The recently discovered A10sHcN asteroid passed over the South Pacific Ocean close to Earth.” Dunn says that this asteroid will still pass through the earth many more times.
There is no threat to the earth
Its size is just between 5 and 10 meters. Therefore, there is no threat to the earth. Even if it enters the earth’s atmosphere, it will burn to pieces immediately and there will be no danger of falling to the earth. Earlier in August, the car-shaped asteroid 2020 QG passed just 2000 miles from Earth.
NASA keeps an eye
If a high-speed space object is expected to come closer than 46.5 lakh miles from the Earth, then it is considered dangerous by space organizations. NASA’s Sentry system already monitors such threats. There are currently 22 such asteroids that have little chance of hitting the Earth for the next 100 years.
