They criticize the “improper use and outrage suffered during the festive season by the emblematic Botanical Garden, the promenade and the park and ride”
The associations of Friends of the Botanical Garden, Huermur, Huerta Viva, Vecinos del Malecón y su Huerta and the Platform in Defense of the Cultural Heritage of Murcia issued a statement this Monday in reference to the “improper use and abuse suffered by the emblematic Botanical Garden of the Malecón, the Paseo del Malecón and the Malecón park and ride”, just before the start of the Murcia Fair. “The body asks us for a truly sustainable fair: we demand the real protection of the Malecón, its surroundings and the urgent restoration of the Botanical Garden,” the groups demanded.
From the associations they condemn «the use of the Botanical Garden as a festive venue or of another nature, mortgaging its future. We remember the non-compliance that for years has been made of municipal noise ordinances altering the tranquility of the residents of the Malecón and San Antolín ».
In the statement, the five associations ask the Murcia City Council “the rehabilitation of the Botanical Garden as a historic garden, with landscape value for the city and didactic for the teaching of botany.” “We ask for a Master Plan for the Paseo del Malecón to stop its deterioration and rehabilitate it in an integral way,” they add.
In addition, from the aforementioned groups they demand “the publication and approval of the environment of the BIC of the Malecón by the Historical Heritage Service (Ministry of Culture of the CARM) to avoid these improper uses.” “We demand that the City Council act in accordance with the General Urban Planning Plan, and revert the misnamed Malecón dissuasive parking lot to a green area,” they pointed out.
In addition, they urgently request the creation of a fairground for Murcia that does not affect other neighborhoods or green areas, born of citizen participation and respect for rest and the environment of all neighborhoods and residents of the city, and that complies with the planning of the PGOU and with the regulations of floods». “Because if your body asks you for a fair, that fair must be in conditions and sustainable in the true meaning of the word,” they conclude.
