The German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi) requires all adults to be vaccinated.
Berlin – The Presidium has spoken out in favor of such a step, the association announced on Thursday. “It is important to protect our patients, to save human lives and also to keep our health system from collapsing,” said Divi President Gernot Marx.
The organization rejects compulsory vaccination only for certain groups such as nurses. It is neither sufficient nor morally justifiable. “It is not enough to require medical staff in clinics and nursing staff in old people’s and nursing homes to be subject to mandatory impositions to get a grip on the pandemic,” emphasized Divi representative Felix Walcher. “We expect solidarity from all of society in order to be able to maintain the health system.”
However, it is also clear that compulsory vaccination would no longer have a decisive influence on the fourth corona wave. “We need nationwide contact restrictions and hygiene concepts now and immediately in order to see noticeable effects in the next three to four weeks,” demanded Marx. However, compulsory vaccination for adults could prevent further outbreaks and thus pave the way to coping with the pandemic. (dpa)
