The Murcia Association for People with Down Syndrome appoints Carlos Alcaraz and Ruth Lorenzo as new ambassadors
The Association for People with Down Syndrome of Murcia (Assido), which is part of the Full Inclusion Region of Murcia, brought together more than 300 people in the XXII edition of its solidarity dinner, held this Friday, May 6 at the Hotel Nelva of Murcia.
After two years of hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, the Assido solidarity dinner returned with a bang and announced two high-ranking ambassadors: the tennis player Carlos Alcaraz and the singer Ruth Lorenzo. The obligations of both prevented them from attending, but they recorded videos of thanks that were projected during the dinner.
In addition, the association unexpectedly appointed two more ambassadors, who were the presenters of the event: the journalists Fran Sáez and Beatriz Salazar. The reaction of both was one of the most emotional and outstanding moments of the night.
The meeting featured live music from the group ‘Granujas de Medio Pelo’. In addition, the night included endearing moments, such as when the attendees recorded a video singing “Happy Birthday” to Carlos Alcaraz or when several of those present participated in a ‘flashmob’, whose dance steps were previously shared on Assido’s social networks.
Present at the solidarity dinner were: the Minister of Health, Juan José Pedreño; the general director of Persons with Disabilities of the IMAS, Conchita Ruiz; the Councilor for the Elderly, Housing and Social Services of the Murcia City Council, Paqui Pérez; Antonio Benito Galindo, Delegate Councilor for Education, Urban Agenda and Open Government; Senator Violante Tomás; regional deputies Sonia Ruiz and Pascual Salvador; and the president of Assido, Víctor Martínez, among others.
Assido is an association for people with Down syndrome founded in Murcia in 1981 (it is the second oldest Down syndrome association in Spain). It currently has almost 400 users and 3 centers where it carries out its work. It is the result of the efforts of a group of fathers and mothers concerned about the well-being of their daughters and sons, who one fine day decided to organize themselves to support each other and, step by step, make a dream come true: that their daughters and sons could develop and grow under the most normal conditions possible.
