Difficulties at the start
The Round of Assen it started out decidedly uphill for Andrea Iannonehis first experience on the wet in Superbike due to the rain that fell on more than one occasion, especially on Friday and Saturday on the Dutch circuit. The former MotoGP rider did not in fact finish Race 1 for a fall occurred on the 4th lap, then reaching the finish line in Superpole Race with an unsatisfactory 15th position also due to an unexpected decline in the rear tire already in the early stages of the race.
Different story in Race 2
The weekend therefore did not smile for the #55 of the Go Eleven team, at least until the appointment with Race 2. Author of an excellent start from the fourth row, Iannone quickly climbed up to the top positions, to the point of fighting for a podium placement, or even victory, especially in the first half of the race. Even in this situation, further drops of rain fell on Assen, but with the progressive and rapid drying of the track Iannone remained firmly in the top five, finishing in 4th place and revealing himself to be the Best Independent.
A weekend which therefore ended positively for the driver from Abruzzo after all the difficulties already encountered during testing due to the adverse weather conditions, and which can be useful for the #29 to increase his experience: “It was a difficult race for everyone because of the lack of dry tests done previously and the weather which was truly unpredictable and constantly changing – commented Iannone – for us, to this difficulty was added the total inexperience on the Assen circuiteverything was new, to be discovered minute by minute, including the set up of the bike and the set up of the electronics. The balance of the weekend is nevertheless positive despite Saturday's mistake, it helped us to be more aware and prepared. We took home the Dutch Round with a good feeling. In race 2 we managed to confirm our competitiveness and our speed, fighting until the end for the podium, staying very close to the riders of the official teams, acquiring further experience and bringing home a good fourth place. We will continue to work in the coming weeks to improve and try to obtain increasingly better results. See you in Misano, I can't wait“.
