Crime increased by 22% in the first quarter of the year compared to the national increase, which reached 27.9%
Crime is once again on the rise in the Region thanks to violent assaults, car thefts and injury crimes. The State Security Corps and Forces registered, in the first quarter of this year, up to 15,801 criminal offenses -crimes and misdemeanors- in the Region, an average of 175 daily, according to the balance provided this Thursday by the Ministry of Interior .
The figure represents an increase of 22% compared to the same period of the previous year, a rise somewhat less than that registered at the national level (of 27.9%). The restrictions that the Covid brought hand in hand last year marked the lowest crime figures in recent times.

Robberies with violence and intimidation occurred in the first quarter of the year, 59.1% more.
The increase in crime figures at the start of this 2022 is explained, in part, by the increase in violent robberies and intimidation. The Region counted up to 439 of these blows, almost double the 276 registered in the same period of the previous year (59.1% more). Robberies with force in houses increased by 11.1%, mainly in the area of Cartagena (118), Lorca (49) and Murcia (314). Vehicle thefts, meanwhile, grew by 30.5%.
Between January and March, according to the analysis that Interior put on the table, 167 car thefts were recorded in the Community. Another of the crimes that rose the most in the first quarter in the Region was intentional homicides and attempted murders. Throughout those three months, 12 cases of people unsuccessfully trying to take another’s life were recorded, five more cases than just a year earlier. In the case of homicides and completed murders, there were three crimes, one more than in 2021.
Decrease in sexual crimes
After several years of gradual escalation, sexual crimes registered a slight decrease in this first quarter, of 5.7%. In the Community, between January and March, 132 of these cases were reported, more than one on average each day. According to the Interior report, the Security Forces and Corps investigated up to 16 sexual assaults with penetration -the same as the previous year-.
