One of the developers of the previous chapters of the series Assassin’s Creed revealed interesting details about the first game. It turned out that the animation system had some pretty serious limitations, which resulted in an interesting approach to some problems.
For example, the horses in the first Assassin’s Creed were actually … human, but with an extremely rearranged skeleton, “because our toolkit only supported bipedal models in 3ds Max“explains Charles Randall, referring to the popular 3D graphics and animation program.
“Respect for the great animators who managed to make a boy look like a horse“The former Ubisoft employee added. The developer also previously revealed that due to the same limitations, Malik’s character actually had both arms, but part of his left arm had been” pushed “inside.
Also the horse in AC1 was just a twisted fucked up human skeleton, because our tool chain only worked with biped in 3ds max.
Cheers to the amazing animators and riggers that managed to make that guy look like a horse!

Certainly a somewhat bizarre but interesting background, don’t you think?
