Asperger’s autistic people often find it difficult to find their way around our world. How do you recognize the syndrome – in your children or in yourself? A father reports.
M.Sometimes I think our dog is also autistic. It is said of them that they like to have continuity in their life and that surprises upset them. And so this little four-legged friend lifts its leg in exactly the same place on every lap, does its business on a precisely defined square meter at the roadside and gets hungry at 6 p.m. sharp, then we have to be home. And guess what? I like that. This routine, this orderly path, this calculable thing. My son, who sometimes accompanies me, likes it too. And there we are already in the middle of the topic.
With him I know from an expert opinion in this field that he is Asperger’s autist. About two years ago we were one of the last cases before the lady retired, and on the first visit she said: “We will do a test, of course, but I can see here after ten minutes of observation that it will be positive. “That’s how it was – 30 years of professional experience do not deceive you. At the same time, a fairly high IQ was noted, which was later to be confirmed in everyday life.
