Several artists who were laid off at the Yermolova Theater will seek their reinstatement through the courts. About this on November 9 “RIA News” said one of the dismissed actresses Alena Burkhanova.
“We will sue and seek reinstatement, this is our main goal. We will demand compensation. We have a lawyer we trust. She will draw up and formalize our requirements, ”Burkhanova said.
She notes that some employees left the theater by agreement of the parties, so it is difficult to name the exact number of those dismissed.
The administration of the theater does not provide any explanations on this matter.
“There will be no comments,” the press attaché of the cultural institution told the agency.
On August 21, the artists dismissed from the Yermolova Theater appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to conduct a check on the fact of the reduction in the number of actors.
The artists suggested that the mass dismissal was planned in advance and was restrained only by the presence of the former artistic director Vladimir Andreev in the theater. They also noted that almost 90% of the performances in the theater were removed from the repertoire. In addition, the artists noticed large expenditures of the theater on “one-day performances”.
On August 23, the actors announced that they wanted to conduct inspections at the organization. At the same time, the director of the theater, Sergei Kuzoyatov, announced on the same day that the organization would lay off 18 artists. Media reports that the theater allegedly plans to fire 29 employees is not true, he said. According to Kuzoyatov, the dismissals concerned only those actors who “did not appear on stage for many years” or “did not appear at the workplace at all, but continued to receive their salary.”
In the Kremlin, however, they said they were not going to interfere in what was happening, and advised to send the question of personnel changes in the theater to the Ministry of Culture.
On August 25, the artists turned to the head of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova for help. According to them, staff reduction and dismissal of about 20 artists cannot be called “personnel changes”.
