Residents and citizens stressed the importance of intensifying traffic awareness about wearing a seat belt, especially for passengers in the front seats of vehicles, as many drivers ignore obligating their companions on the trip, their families and friends, to do this procedure before moving the vehicle, which may expose them to the risk of losing their lives, if they do not Initiate themselves to fasten the seat belt.
For its part, Abu Dhabi Police warned of the danger of drivers not fastening their seat belts while driving, as it may result in the loss of their lives in the event of accidents, noting that it monitors this violation on the way of the automatic monitoring system (Vast).
In detail, citizens and residents monitored many drivers ignoring the obligation of their companions of passengers, to fasten the seat belt, and not taking into account the possibility of endangering their lives, noting that some of them may ask the passenger, especially in the front seats, to fasten the seat belt in the event of seeing a police patrol only, for fear from being infringed.
Adnan Ahmed said that he rarely happens to be asked to fasten his seat belt before moving with a friend’s vehicle, or with his family, and confirmed that he takes the initiative of himself, whether the trip is on internal or external roads.
He stressed that drivers’ negligence or ignoring the obligation of their companions to fasten the seat belt poses a great danger to the lives of passengers, especially since the driver himself can be bound to tie him without imposing the obligation on others.
Muhammad Ayoub agreed with him, as he stressed that the risk is greater if there are children in the vehicle, considering that the captain of the vehicle is the captain of the ship, who imposes laws and directives on its passengers, so he must compel all passengers to fasten their seat belts.
And he monitored the neglect of some drivers themselves to fasten the seat belt, while the passenger is more committed than him, pointing to the importance of increasing awareness campaigns and demonstrating the danger of not fastening the seat belt.
Abu Khaled stressed the importance of tightening the penalty for violating the seat belt, whether for the driver or the vehicle’s passengers, because of its danger to their lives in the event of a traffic accident, noting that he used to refuse to move the vehicle if his companions did not fasten the seat belt, in order to preserve their safety from road hazards during the trip.
For its part, Abu Dhabi Police stressed the importance of adhering to the use of the seat belt, its effectiveness in protecting against collision and absorbing the impulse of the driver and his companions, which leads to reducing the consequences of the accident, pointing out that driving without using it poses a serious danger.
Abu Dhabi Police indicated that the penalty for not wearing a seat belt while driving for the driver and passengers is a fine of 400 dirhams, according to Article No. 51 stipulated in the executive regulations amending Traffic and Traffic Law No. 178.
She stressed that the use of the seat belt helps to avoid most injuries in traffic accidents, and reduces the complications of collisions, calling on drivers to abide by traffic laws and regulations, in order to preserve the safety of drivers and the safety of road users, stressing the continuous interest in providing the highest standards of traffic safety, and spreading traffic awareness among drivers.
Abu Dhabi Police, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority, began at the beginning of this year to complete a traffic safety and accident reduction model by launching this system to monitor violations of the use of the phone and seat belt while driving.
Finally, Abu Dhabi Police alerted drivers and visitors to the emirate of the importance of buckling the seat belt, through a warning message broadcast on its accounts on the social networking site, as it confirmed: “Some may not realize the importance of the seat belt, unless they are involved in a road accident; Then he is absolutely sure that the seat belt is often a lifeline.”
Abu Dhabi Police has developed a special radar system, which captures high-resolution images, under different conditions, and the cameras work with artificial intelligence technology to analyze these images, and monitor if the driver is not using a seat belt or using the phone, and the system works to send a notification to violating drivers, via text messages. Short, urging them to correct behavior in time while driving.
She indicated that it also uses its developed smart patrols, which are able to monitor violations of not buckling the seat belt, talking on the phone while driving, excessive speed, busyness other than the road, and seizing expired and required vehicles.
Seat belts and accident mortality
Abu Dhabi Police statistics revealed that about 60% of the deaths, and 54% of those seriously injured in traffic accidents that occurred during nine months in 2017, did not use a seat belt at the time of the traffic accident, which confirms its importance in preventing the consequences of traffic accidents.
