Leandro Trossard had two chances to score for Brighton, before Martin Odegaard scored Arsenal’s second goal in the 39th minute when he took advantage of a ball that the defense failed to clear well, to hit a ball that bounced off the ground high into the net.
The leaders seemed on the way to an easy victory after another shot, fired by Martinelli, rebounded from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, to reach striker Nketiah, who scored from close range after the break.
But Kauru Mitoma pulled one back in the 65th minute, before Gabriel Martinelli scored Arsenal’s fourth goal from a wonderful pass from Odegaard.
Brighton did not lose hope and Ivan Ferguson scored the second goal in an exciting end.
Mituma scored in the 89th minute, but the referee canceled the goal after reviewing the video assistant referee for offside.
