The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, within the framework of ‘Plan against theft in agricultural and livestock farms’ and in collaboration with the Local Police of Calasparra, developed the ‘Chariot’ operation. The investigation, aimed at clarifying a series of robberies on agricultural estates in the Northwest region, resulted in the dismantling of a criminal group, made up of four people. The Civil Guard clarified 11 crimes of robbery with force and recovered a light trailer.
The investigation began in December of last year, when agents of the ROCA team of Caravaca de la Cruz learned of the theft committed in a farm in the municipality of Cehegín, from which a light trailer, valued at more than 3,000 euros, was stolen, and fuel. The site was seriously damaged.
In the first quarter of this year, the theft of another trailer, which occurred in the municipality of Moratalla, as well as other robberies in unpopulated areas of the Northwest region of Murcia, made the agents suspect that it could be a criminal group specialized in the robbery on agricultural estates.
Thefts worth 10,000 euros
The investigations carried out revealed that their objective was both trailers, tools, diesel, batteries and electrical installations, even stealing more than a thousand liters of diesel and copper cable, valued at more than 10,000 euros. On the occasion of the robbery committed in a stone crushing quarry, the plant had to stop working for several days, with the consequent financial losses.
Finally, after several months of investigation, the Civil Guard, in collaboration with the Local Police of Calasparra, identified three people, allegedly linked in the criminal field, neighbors of Murcia and Albacete, who apparently organized their criminal tasks to carry out carry out the thefts continuously.
The ‘Chariot’ operation resulted in the dismantling of a criminal group, of which three members were arrested and a fourth investigated as alleged perpetrators of at least 11 crimes of robbery with force in agricultural and mining operations in the Northwest region .
The Civil Guard recovered one of the stolen trailers that, with the falsified chassis number, was sold to a third person. The detainees, the recovered objects and the proceedings that were carried out were made available to the Examining Court of Caravaca de la Cruz.
