The authorities have indicated that “there is no reason to fear for the safety” of citizens, after the agent who was attacked by the suspect fired in self-defense, killing the aggressor. “We do not rule out motives, but so far there is no information in the case that indicates that it is a terrorist incident,” Police Inspector Egil Jorgen Brekke has detailed, as reported by the NRK television network, who added that “he is a person known” to the security forces who “already has a history.”
The incident took place in Bislett around 9:00 a.m. (local time), when the suspect threatened a person with a knife. The Police, who were in the vicinity, arrived shortly afterwards at the scene.
In a video shared through social networks, a patrol car is seen trying to corner the attacker against a wall. However, the man has managed to get away, open the door of the vehicle and stab one of the officers.
The Police have not shared, for the moment, more details of the attacker, since they have not yet notified his relatives, but have stressed that “a dangerous attack” has been avoided.
The event comes a month after the tragedy shook southern Norway when a man, armed with a bow and arrows, shot at those in his path, leaving at least five dead and two wounded.
