BUENOS AIRES/MADRID (Reuters) – Agro-exporters in Argentina are in talks with Spain to ship the cereal, the head of the Argentine chamber of grain exporters and processors CIARA-CEC said on Wednesday, who hopes the European nation will relax imports amid supply cuts due to the crisis in Ukraine.
The Spanish government and the European Union have yet to confirm plans to ease restrictions on imports of corn grown in Argentina.
Virtually all corn in Argentina, the world’s second largest grain exporter, is transgenic.
“We have already had several conversations with the Ministry of Agriculture in Spain and the food industry in Spain, and Spain has already confirmed that it will do so (relaxation of rules)”, said the head of CIARA-CEC, Gustavo Idigoras.
