Argentine police are investigating the death and hospitalization of several people in Greater Buenos Aires who allegedly used adulterated cocaine.
According to information from Clarín, at least 17 people have died and more than 50 people have been hospitalized in the cities of Hurlingham, Tres de Febrero, San Martín and Ituzaingó, in the province of Buenos Aires, where police operations are being carried out in areas where the drug was sold.
“It is a very serious fact for public health,” said Marcelo Lapargo, attorney general of San Martín. “It is an exceptional event, we have no precedents. It makes us think that the substance was included deliberately, it is not a mistake in the process.”
Also according to Clarín, at first it was thought that the substance would be rat poison, but experts consulted by the newspaper pointed out, based on the health status of those poisoned, that it could be an opioid derivative.
One hypothesis investigated is that poisoning would be an intentional act related to a dispute between traffickers.
