SAO PAULO (Reuters) – ArcelorMittal announced this Tuesday that it will restart rolling mill 3 at its long steel mill in Monlevade (MG) as of January 2022, citing market demand and prospects for economic growth.
The rolling mill has a capacity of 1 million tons per year, but ArcelorMittal stated that “production will take place gradually and in line with market demand.” The plant has two other rolling mills and an installed capacity of 1.2 million tons.
The equipment was assembled in 2015, the company said in a press release. “The aim of the laminator is to guarantee full customer service. The strong demand for steel, especially in the advance of civil construction, and the economic indicators made it possible to operate the rolling mill”, stated ArcelorMittal.
Last week, rival Gerdau announced that it will install a new hot rolled coil mill at the Ouro Branco (MG) mill, with a capacity of 250 thousand tons per year, as well as a new structural profile machine with a capacity of 500 thousand tons yearly.
