In the vast panorama of role-playing games, Arcana: Champions of Tarots (Arcane) wants to emerge as a unique experience that unites the Tarot tradition with a compelling and collaborative narrative, promising to take players on a journey out of time and space, guided by the symbolic power of the cards. But what exactly are we talking about?
The narrative of fate
Arcana is a narrative role-playing game in which participants take on the role of Tarot Championscharacters called to carry out missions and overcome challenges within an adventure orchestrated by Fortune teller. The latter, a sort of Game Master, uses a deck of Tarot cards to guide the plot and the fate of the Champions, making each session unpredictable and full of twists.
To immerse yourself in the world of Arcana, you need a Tarot deck from 78 cards shared among all participants, one currency for each player and one Form Individual champion. Arcana’s strength lies in its ability to transform role-playing into acollective experience. Thanks to the use of Tarot, each adventure is a unique journey that reflects the choices and interpretations of the players.
Each Champion is created through the drawing of a Minor Arcanawhich defines theessence and theAffinity Elemental of the character, giving insight into his character and inclinations. Also the talent and the weakness of each player are randomly selected by drawing cards. It will then be up to him to complete the sheet using his imagination, taking as inspiration what fate provides.
Settings and Creative Freedom
One of the most fascinating aspects of Arcana is the freedom granted to players when defining thesetting of their adventures. The game system is not tied to a specific setting, allowing groups to explore infinite narrative possibilities. Tarot cards, with their powerful symbolism, facilitate the creation of rich and varied contexts, giving life to stories that can range from fantasy to modern, from mystical to science fiction.

It will therefore be possible to use the cards, drawing them randomly according to the schemes provided by the regulation, to get ideas on the adventure that will be played. The game system of Arcana is based on events collectivesevents opposedand events arcana which determine the challenges and dynamics within the adventures. The fortuneteller determines for each event a difficulty threshold which corresponds to the number of successes necessary to pass the test. Each head (or tail of the player’s choice) on the coin will correspond to a success.
Situations of advantage and disadvantageor the use of some cards provided to each player at the start of the game and earned by playing, will allow you to throw more coins you hate add difficulty to the test. By collapsing the aforementioned events into fights, there will instead be conflict phases within which the fights between the champions and various threats will be managed.
