The Superbike offered ten top-level laps for the Aragon Superpole Race, which established the starting grid for Race 2 scheduled for today at 2:00 pm. It was the winner in front of the home crowd Alvaro Bautistawho after a duel with his teammate Nicolò Bulega and with the world leader Toprak Razgatlioglu climbs onto the top step of the podium again. The last time the Spaniard managed to reach this milestone was in another Superpole Race dating back to the second half of April, when the #1 celebrated the victory at Assen. From there, the Spaniard began a long streak of victories which was interrupted today after a spectacular performance which could also have repercussions on the world championship. While waiting to understand how Race 2 will end, and with still two weekends to go, Bulega is in fact 35 points behind Razgatlioglu, one step away from his first career victory in Aragon.
Race report
If we exclude Bulega’s excellent sprint at the start, the Turk was the only one to threaten the exhausts of the Emilian rider’s Ducati, overtaking the trio of Petrucci, Iannone and Bautista in the space of just two laps. In fact, after quickly reaching #11, from the 3rd to the 5th lap a real battle began with Bulega, his direct rival for the title, with overtaking and counter-overtaking, from which the Italian however emerged victorious . The challenge, however, allowed Bautista to recover from the leading duo, with Razgatlioglu taking the lead with three laps to go with a very determined attack. The episode pushed Bautista first to overtake his teammate on the penultimate lap, and finally the #54 BMW on the 10th and last of the Superpole Race, thus returning to victory.
