Perfect day for Maverick Vinales in Austin. The Spaniard enchants on his black colt and takes Aprilia to the top of the world at the third round of the MotoGP season, thus becoming the first rider in the MotoGP era to win a Grand Prix with three different manufacturers after victories with Suzuki and Yamaha. A record that says a lot about the class of the Spaniard who, after having dominated practice and the sprint race, today had to squeeze the Aprilia's V4 to the hilt and stage a spectacular race full of overtaking: at the start, after a contact, he found himself at the back (eleventh!) and was therefore forced – to the delight of the spectators – to climb back up to triumph.
An unprecedented show of strength that swept away the Ducati crowd and effectively launched the Spaniard (and Aprilia) into the club of title contenders. But, speaking of feats of strength, a special mention goes to Marc Marquez: he did not disappoint on his favorite track. Endless duels, the grit of the golden days and breathtaking performances, until his second choice Ducati knocked him to the ground while he was leading. It's a shame, a duel between Marquez and Vinales – who was coming back at the time – would have made the spectacular American race even more fascinating. A unique show, also made memorable by the braking of Pedro Acosta, debutant in the category (he must always be remembered), with the Ktm Gas Gas which in the end took a well-deserved second place. Finally, the duel for third place between Martin and Bastianini, which the latter ultimately won, was also beautiful.
And the reigning world champion? Bagnaia appeared to be in difficulty and in the end he only finished fifth under the checkered flag. Thus Martin always leads the World Championship standings, followed by the two official Ducati riders Bastianini and Bagnaia. But the next event, April 28, at the Spanish GP in Jerez de la Frontera, will be a battle again. The world championship this year is giving us a truly wonderful show.
